Ministers Gets Their Car Upgraded From Proton Perdana To Toyata Vellfire

NewsMinisters Gets Their Car Upgraded From Proton Perdana To Toyata Vellfire

The Bayan Baru Member of Parliament (MP), Sim Tze Tzin has in the Dewan Rakyat asked the Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz about the cost of leasing luxury vehicles for the Ministers allocated in the Budget 2022.

It has been made known that the Malaysian government has upgraded the official minister car from Proton Perdana to Toyota Vellfire 2.5L since April this year.

In response to Sim’s question, Tengku Zafrul said the total monthly lease for each unit comes up to RM5,759, which includes RM4,852 as lease payment, and RM908 for its upkeep.

It is also revealed that the leasing of the luxury MPVs is sourced from the government’s longstanding fleet management partner Spanco.

In a Facebook post, Sim also criticize the Budget 2022 for only allocating a RM150 ewallet credit for the youths and special aid of RM700 for civil servants, but the ministers are getting a “Vellfire support” of RM5,759 every month.

He then said the ministers had been getting their new car in April 2021, when the people are facing job loss, bankruptcy and some were even pushed to their limits and had attempted suicide.

He added that the federal debt is not at RM1.3 trillion and has exceeded the 65% debt ceiling set previously.

“Is this luxury a necessity?” he said.

Sim also pointed out that the irony when these MPs had objected the then Pakatan Harapan government’s proposal to upgrade the minister vehicle to Toyota Vellfire, and they had been enjoying this luxury now.

Meanwhile, Paultan reported that the Vellfire replaces the stretched version of the Perdana, which has always been reserved for ministers. The standard-wheelbase variants used by other government officials have already been replaced by the X70, also supplied by Spanco.

It is also said that Spanco retains the government contract it has held since 1994.

Early last year, it was reported that a Naza-Berjaya consortium had secured a new deal, but that was with the Pakatan Harapan government which has long since fallen.
