After more than a year since the Covid-19 pandemic started in Malaysia, most of us are not familiar with the social distancing rules, as well as the SOPs that require us to always wear a mask.
As for e-hailing services, there are a different set of rules for both passengers and drivers, given that it is potentially a place which could spark a cluster.
However, a passenger was amazed by the Grab driver’s setup, where he had literally put up a ‘wall’ between them, just to be safe.
In the TikTok video, @tengkuasmadi shared that it is as if he had entered an ambulance, when he was greeted by a wall of clear, plastic film separating the passenger area from the front of the car where the driver sat.

What’s more surprising is that the driver even made 2 pipes out of rolled-up manila cards so the passengers can still get the cool air from the air conditioner.
“I was confused whether I took a Grab or an ambulance. Haha there’s a hole for the aircond.” he wrote in the caption.
At the time of writing, the video had garnered over 1.4 million views and 118,000 likes, as netizens finds this amazing too.
“If I get [a ride like this], I’ll rate 10 stars!!!” a netizen commented on the TikTok video.
“He did the right thing. Better to prevent than to treat later.” another netizen wrote.
There were a number of them who praised the grab driver for his effort to stop the spread of Covid-19 too.
Meanwhile, a netizen pointed out that the ventilation in the car is still not improved.
“Hahah by doing this with the aircond on, it’s still the same in the end. The risks of getting Covid-19 is more or less the same because the ventilation from the aircond just circulates in the car.” the netizen wrote.

In regards of this matter, the CDC recommended the use of recirculated air option so that fresh air from the outside can be brought into the vehicle. The other option to improve the air circulation in the car is to keep the windows open.
There was a study conducted by a team of Brown University researchers, where they said that there’s no way to eliminate the risk of contamination by pathogens in a vehicle completely.
Hence, it’s still best to wear a mask throughout the ride in case any of the ventilation options above do not work out.
