Netflix games launches globally for Android users and its free for Netflix subscribers

Netflix is officially launching Netflix Games globally for Android users, in its in-app gaming platform. Games are rolling out gradually starting 3 November, and it is completely free for Netflix subscribers with no additional charges.

The first batch of games for the global launch features the same five games that were already rolled out in Poland, Spain, and Italy earlier this year which include: Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up.

Available on phones and tablets, users will see a dedicated games row and tab in their app once the Netflix Games feature arrive on their devices. The number of devices that can play the games simultaneously will be capped to the limit on your plan, and as an added measure for child safety, Kids profiles won’t have access to the gaming feature. While the default language is in English, games will automatically switch to your preferred language if it’s available.

Netflix says that even though some games require an internet connection, there will also be games that can be downloaded and played offline. Even though there will be no extra fees or in-app purchases for subscribers, Netflix games will also be an ad-free experience. As for other operating systems, the official Netflix Geeked account has tweeted that the iOS version is “on the way”.

The streaming giant says that its gaming offerings are still in its early days and will be adding more to its library. The platform seems to be serious about its video game ambitions, hiring EA and VR veteran Mike Verdu as its new VP of Game Development, and potentially adding PlayStation as a gaming partner in the near future. It’s also looking to capitalise on the popular Squid Game series by making a video game, though it seems that some crypto scammers have beaten Netflix to it.
