Motorist who travel through Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur are advised to avoid Jalan Seri Hartamas 1 after a massive sink hole significantly damaged several parts of the road.
According to a Facebook post by Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS), both lanes of the road located at the intersection of Jalan Hartamas 1 and Jalan Dutamas 1 are currently closed to traffic.
In a follow up comment in the original post, ITIS said both sides of the road are now closed as the sink hole is expanding.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian reported that the large sink hole appeared due to heavy and continuous rain.
The City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Chief, Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh has said that they had already noticed a small sinkhole forming on that road since 11.30 p.m. on 19 October.
“The heavy rain around Kuala Lumpur that started at 2 p.m. has caused the sinkhole to enlarge to the point that both lanes on Jalan Sri Hartamas 1 (heading towards Wilayah Persekutuan’s Ministry of Home Affairs) to be closed.”
According to Astro Awani, the incident took place at about 5.30 p.m. and by 7.30 p.m., both lanes on Jalan Sri Hartamas 1 have been closed off.
Fortunately, there no loss of life or damage done to vehicles was reported.
The authorities then urge the members of the public to not use the road for the time being.
