A man in his 30s was arrested by the police for allegedly impersonating a policeman in Taman TTDI Grove, Kajang on 16 October.
According to Kosmo, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the police receive a report at 2.29 a.m. regarding the incident, where the suspect is said to be involved in an altercation between two parties concerning housing rent in the residential area.
“Passers-by managed to intervene and separated the two groups. However, the suspect introduced himself as a policeman and even showed an ‘authority card’ in a bid to protect himself.” he said.
Mohd Zaid added that one of the men who separated the groups noticed something odd about the man and he contacted the police immediately.
“When police personnel arrived, they discovered that the suspect was using a fake authority card and confirmed that he was not a policeman. The suspect was arrested and has been remanded until Friday (22 October).” he said.
The police had also seized various items from the suspect, including the fake authority card, a police operational uniform and a pair of handcuffs.
“We are investigating whether the suspect is involved with other cases of posing as a policeman.” he added.
Mohd Zaid said the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 89 of the Police Act 1967 for impersonating the police and possessing illegal police equipment.
He also urge those with with information to contact investigating officer, Insp Hairul Anuar Suhaimi at 012-304 3034 or any nearest police station.
The 50-second video that went viral on social media showed the suspect claiming to be a policeman working at the Kajang Police Station.
During the interrogation, he admitted to having attended shooting training at the General Operations Force (PGA) and is taking drugs.
