The Ministry of Education (KPM) has announced that schools in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak and Sabah will continue to operate as under the Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) tomorrow (18 October).
KPM explained that the Ministry will be giving schools 2 weeks to prepare themselves for reopening following the date where the respective states are transitioned into the next phase of the NRP.
“Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak and Sabah move to Phase 3 starting 18 October 2021, schools in Kedah and Kelantan are set to reopen on 31 October.”
“Meanwhile, for Penang, Perak and Sabah, schools are set to reopen on 1 November.” the Ministry said in a statement today (17 October).
On Friday (15 October), the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced that Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Sabah, Melaka, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will be moving forward to Phase 3 and Phase 4 of the NRP respectively.
KPM said that schools that are reopening under the Phase 3 of the NRP involves pre-school and kindergarten students, students with special needs, students who will be having major examinations and full boarding school student.
Nonetheless, private schools that are offering international exams such as IGCSE O-Levels and A-Levels, Australian Higher School Certificate, as well as other international examinations are set to reopen too.
“For schools in Melaka, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, schools shall continue to operate based on the guidelines under the Phase 3 of the NRP on 18 October 2021.”
“As these states will transition to Phase 4 of the NRP starting 18 October, schools in these states will only operate based on the guidelines under Phase 4 of the NRP beginning on 1 November.” the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, this includes the admission for students from Standard 1, 2 and 3 of primary schools, as well as students from Form 3 and 4 of secondary schools.
As for the remaining of the students (Standard 4, 5, 6, and Form 1, 2) in will be returning to school starting 8 November, which is a week after schools are reopened.
KPM said that this notice is made for all education institution registered under the Ministry, but they urge education institution that are not registered with them to follow this guideline too.
