Walk-in vaccination for all individuals in Penang starting on 6 October

Starting tomorrow 6 Oct, individuals who are eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine but have yet to receive their appointments, can walk into any vaccination centre (PPV) statewide.

This includes teenagers, aged between 12 and 17-years-old.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow assured that the operations of 10 PPVs throughout the state would resume as usual until the completion of the second dose and would not be stopped as rumoured.

He said the PPVs include the Sungai Nibong pesta ground, the Balik Pulau sports complex and Spice Arena on the island, as well as Dewan Millennium, Perda convention centre, Seberang Prai Arena, Seberang Jaya expo ground, Vangohh Eminent, Jawi and Sungai Bakap multipurpose halls, all of which are on the mainland.

“In fact, to ensure the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) for adults, teenagers and booster shots can be continued smoothly, the operations at the PPVs will be fully over taken by the Health Ministry soon,” he said today.

Meanwhile, Chow said data from the state Health Department showed that the trend of Covid-19 infections in Penang was beginning to show a decline.

“Nevertheless, the state government, in collaboration with the state Health Department and Health Ministry, are making necessary preparations to face any possibility,” he said, adding that as of yesterday, there were a total 65 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at the Penang Hospital.

“For the medium to long term, four to six ICU beds will be added in the hospital, depending on needs, four in the field hospital and 10 at the Kepala Batas Hospital, all of which are expected to be completed by the end of October,” he added.

According to him, planning of equipment and human resources requirements are being made for the opening of additional ICUs, involving cooperation at the state and federal levels.

As for the vaccination for civil servants, particular education frontliners, Chow said he believed the respective departments would have taken necessary actions to ensure the safety of everyone, especially children at educational institutions in the state.
