The Pasir Mas Member of Parliament (MP), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had took to Facebook to call out to the Ministry of Education (MOE) to provide an explanation on the allocation of RM15 million to Chinese private schools.
Ahmad Fadhli, also the PAS Deputy Youth Chief has questioned how much allocation the government has channeled to the private tahfiz schools.
“I have sent questions for the Ministerial Question Time (MQT) which is scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the parliamentary session.”
“We will wait patiently for the Education Minister to answer. In any case, it is an issue that must need clarification,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that the Finance Ministry had approved an allocation of RM15 million to 63 Chinese private schools nationwide.
The matter was revealed by Dong Zong President, Tan Tai Kim to Malaysiakini and confirmed by the Deputy Education Minister, Mah Hang Soon.
“On 23 September, the Finance Ministry informed that an allocation of RM15 million will be provided for 63 Chinese private schools.” Tan said.
On the other hand, the Malaysian Tahfiz Al-Quran Madrasah Association (Permata Al-Quran) found that 64.7% of tahfiz maahad in Malaysia was ordered to close operations by the government previously.
The Permata Al-Quran president, Manolito Mohd Dahlan said that based on a study conducted, there were a total of 512 tahfiz mahaads in the country, as reported by Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, he explained that the study also found that 11.7% of maahad tahfiz had to lay off all staff, while 52% of them could afford to pay half the salary, and 34.4% could not last more than 3 months.
He added that 38.1% of them did not receive any form of assistance from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) while 85.4% of maahad received half or less tuition fees because parents could not afford it.
