A babysitter was detained by the police for allegedly abusing an autistic boy at a daycare centre in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur yesterday (3 October).

According to Bernama, Ampang Jaya Police Chief, ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the police received a report from the boy’s father regarding the incident on Friday (1 October).

In the report, the father said his 6 year-old boy is believed to have been abused between 8.45 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. on the same day (1 October) after the father found bruises on the boy’s shoulder and both eyes when picking him back from the centre.

However, a teacher at the daycare centre told the father that the the red mark on the side of the boy’s forehead was due to the child hitting his head on the table.

After noticing the inconsistencies, the father demanded to check on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the daycare and he was devastated to find that the suspect had acted violently when his son refused to eat his meal.

Mohamad Farouk said the futher investigations found that the 51 year-old suspect was the manager of the daycare centre and she employed 3 local workers, who were also at the scene.

He said that the daycare centre has 7 children, including the victim, under her care and all are autistic.

The police also found that the centre has been operating for 7 years but its licence has expeired.

He added that the woman will be remanded until Tuesday, 5 October, to assist in the investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect as well as Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act 1952 for overstaying and having an expired social pass.
