Yesterday (1 October), Air Selangor had announced that there will be a scheduled water disruption affective 998 areas in 7 districts in Selangor starting 9 a.m. on 13 October.
Air Selangor also explained that the disruption is due to upgrades and maintenance works which would require them to temporarily cease the operation of the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 1 (LRA SSP1).
Nonetheless, Air Selangor expects that the work will be completed in 3 days, on 16 October.
The affected areas include Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.
In a statement announced on Facebook, the Air Selangor Chief Executive Officer, Suhaimi Kamaralzaman explained that the upgrade and maintenance work had been scheduled for 2019 and last year but were postponed following the water pollution incidents that caused a large-scale unscheduled water supply disruption.
Despite Air Selangor expecting 3 days for the work to be completed, he said that the duration of the water supply disruption and recovery in the affected areas would vary depending on the distance of the consumers’ premises and the water pressure at the distribution system.
Hence, Suhaimi advised the public to store enough water during the supply disruption period.
However, he said that 105 water tankers will be mobilised to affected areas, with the priority given to critical premises such as hospitals and dialysis centres and for funerals.
In addition, Air Selangor will provide 18 public water taps from 14 to 16 October for the affected residents too.
Suhaimi said that Air Selangor will provide the public with the timely status update and that the public can visit Air Selangor’s official social media accounts or through its 15300 hotline number for more information.
