Last week, the Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that the dose interval for AstraZeneca will now be shortened from 9 weeks to 6 weeks with effective from 1 October.
If you have missed your second dose appointment, you are advised to double check the interval between your first dose to ensure that you are eligible to walk in for the second dose.
Nonetheless, Khairy said this decision was made to provide convenience to individuals that have gotten their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Among the vaccines administered under the National Immunisation Programme, AstraZeneca has the longest dose interval between the first and second dose, when compared to Sinovac and Pfizer which both have a shorter 3-week interval between the 2 doses.
However, all individuals who took these 3 types of vaccines are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose.
Meanwhile, for Malaysians who are residing in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and have yet to get their vaccines, the walk-in vaccinations have been extended until 30 September at these 5 dedicated PPVs.
