The police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched for the allegations of power abuse and use of false documents by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), after a report lodged by the former Prime Minister, Najib Razak.

According to The Star, Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) department director Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the matter is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

He said that all parties involved will be called in to give their statements in the near future.

“The public is advised not to speculate as that could disrupt our investigations. The police will ensure that the investigation will be conducted fairly and according to the law.” he added.

He then reassured that investigations are carried out fairly and justly, and in line with the existing laws.

On 8 September, Najib had lodged a police report against the IRB officials for colluding with certain politicians to falsify documents and commit power abuse in relation to his tax case.

Najib claimed that he has “strong evidence” that senior IRB officials and said politicians “clearly” violated various sections of the Penal Code and Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

This comes after the LHDN ordered Najib to pay an additional tax of about RM1.4 billion after the 14th General Election, and the additional taxes rosed to RM1.69 billion after additional late penalties were imposed by the LHDN’s Special Action Department.

Najib also said he recently received information on the matter, and that some officers have met him to apologise over the case that has purportedly been investigated thrice since 2018.
