Yesterday (15 September), a heavy downpour had caused a landslide at the Forest Hill construction quarters in Penampang, which then claimed the lives of a 25 year-old woman and a 5 year-old girl.
According to FMT, the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the victims of the flash floods and landslide disasters were identified as Salma Hamid, 25 and Dayana Zulazmil, Rosatima Asbirin, 5.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call on the landslide at 3.57 p.m. and have immediately dispatched personnel to the location.
“There were six family members affected when their house was hit by the landslide.”
“The 2 were confirmed dead on location by medical officers, while the rest of the victims, 3 female minors aged 8 months to 3 years and a 22 year-old woman, were reported to be safe.” they said.
Earlier, a landslide was also reported along Penampang at Tambunan road, where some houses at the lower slope were hit by debris and cars along the side road, however, no casualty has been recorded.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still at the site and are still performing evacuation and rescue attempts.
The Civil Defence Force in a separate statement said 3 relief centres in Kota Kinabalu, the Likas multipurpose hall, Luyang hall and Damai hall, have been activated to standby for flood victims relocation.
