Yesterday (14 September), a video of a large group of Bangladesh nationals gathered in front of the main Pos Malaysia outlet at Jalan Stesen went viral on social media.
It was reported that the Bangladesh nationals had gathered there to pick up their passports early morning at 8.30 a.m.
However, these people were seen standing very close to each other and had ignored the calls to maintain social distancing rules. The outlet’s security staff could be seen trying their best to maintain order too.
Nonetheless, a police report was later lodged by the post office manager, informing the police that a group of foreigners had gathered in front of the office and the situation had become uncontrollable when they did not follow the SOPs or maintain social distancing.
According to Sinar Harian, South Klang District Police Chief, ACP Shamsul Amar said their initial investigation found that there were 130 people who had come to the office to collect their passports.
The crowd had gathered at the pos office branch because the Bangladesh embassy had appointed Pos Malaysia Klang branch as an agent to enable their citizens to their pick up their renewed passports.
“The police from the SOP compliance team of the South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) led by Insp Mohd Shaipudin Mohamed were present at the scene and managed to alleviate the uncontrollable situation.” Shamsul Amar said.
“The South Klang IPD SOP monitoring and compliance team will also be assigned to help control the situation at Pos Malaysia Klang Branch to prevent similar incidents from recurring.” he added.
