Grab Malaysia has introduced a new policy to ensure the safety of both driver-partners and passengers who uses its e-hailing service. With effective from 14 September, only passengers and drivers who have a “low risk” or “casual contact with no symptoms” status on their MySejahtera app are allowed on the Grab eHailing platform.
With this new policy, both drivers and passengers can now request to show their MySejahtera risk status before they proceed with the journey. Grab Malaysia said anything beyond these sections and information other than risk status are off-limits.
If a person has “Close Contact”, “Person Under Surveillance (PUS)”, “Suspected Case” or “Confirmed Case” status, they will not be able to proceed with their ride and this applies to drivers as well.
According to Grab Malaysia, the new update is part of Grab’s own eHailing policy and it is not a directive from the National Security Council. This move is Grab’s own initiative to create a safer environment for both drivers and passengers, as well as to reduce the risk of Covid-19 exposure.
Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia added that the proof of vaccination is not required. All individuals, whether fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated or not vaccinated, will be able to use their eHailing service as long as they meet the Covid-19 risk status requirement.
Grab Malaysia also stressed that personal information such as IC, passport number or phone number are not a requirement to be shared under this new policy.
Starting 10 September, the Malaysian government has lifted the ban on interdistrict and interstate travel within Klang Valley. However, the maximum number of persons allowed for taxis and eHailing vehicles are set at 2 person, including the driver. This means only 1 passenger is allowed and they must be seated at the back row.
In addition, the SOP requires a face mask to be worn at all times, even when taking a ride on eHailing, taxi and all forms of public transport.
Nonetheless, MySejahtera has recently been updated and it now shows your COVID-19 risk and proof of vaccination on the check-in screen. This makes it more convenient for users and premise owner to check the status of their customers.
If your MySejahtera app does not show these updates, you can check manually at Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery.
