The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics has recently come to an end and Malaysian athletes who had brought home medals were given handsome incentives for their achievements.
But what about those who once represented the country but were forgotten as time passes?
Recently, a netizen took to Facebook to share the coincidently running into an ex-Paralympian, Mohd Raduan Emeari at a BHP petrol. The netizen also found that the ex-Paralympian is now working there too.
The netizen also said the petrol station was the last place he was expecting to meet an ex-national athlete.
Mohd Raduan was a former participant in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics Men’s Track 100m event and he even bagged a silver medal at the 2017 ASEAN Para Games.
The netizen then said the ex-Paralympian should be at least given incentives for his contribution and live decently.
Meanwhile, another netizen on Twitter also shared about his visit to the petrol station and had took a photo with him.
He added that Mohd Raduan had requested him to not share his incident on social media for he feared of getting a warning from the National Sports Council (MSN).
He added that if anybody wants to help Mohd Raduan, please drop him a message.
Responding to the matter, MSN said the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) had previously offered the ex-Paralympian employment opportunities but was rejected by him.
They added that Mohd Raduan had dropped from the Podium Program at the end of 2017 and he did not participate in any tournament because he wanted to focus on his family, as he has a wife and a child.
“However, he has been appointed as the promoter of para athletics starting in 2020 until now with a payment of RM350 per month to help MSN discover new talents in the sport in Selangor.” the Director of MSN, Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said.
In addition, they have provided a business training course for Mohd Raduan to help him strive for a better life.
