Social News"New Cabinet, Old Ministers" Malaysians criticises PM Ismail's Cabinet Line-up

Yesterday (27 August), the newly-appointed Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri has announced his cabinet line-up in a press conference. His cabinet line-up will consists of 4 senior ministers, but with no Deputy Prime Minister.

Nonetheless, netizens and the Opposition Members of Parliament (MP) were not impressed by it and many had pointed out that it was very similar to the previous one under Muhyiddin Yassin, with only minor reshuffles.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh criticized “It is really a game of musical chairs with the same people rotating offices in Putrajaya.”, as reported by FMT.

She then said that the new Cabinet was not any better than Muhyiddin’s Cabinet as they were people from the previous cabinet.

“I am very upset that Pengerang MP Azalina Othman is not named as one of the ministers but I’m glad Takiyuddin Hassan is no longer the law minister. I hope Ismail will make Azalina the Dewan Rakyat speaker for greater check and balance.”

On the other hand, the Opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim has called the new Cabinet a “recycled line-up with ministers who had failed to perform in the last 1.5 years being reappointed”.

“It is disappointing. We had hoped for changes but it did not happen.” he said in his Facebook live.

Meanwhile, netizens on Twitter said that they had not felt any difference between the previous Perikatan Nasional-led government and the one from Ismail.

Nonetheless, it is worth noting the differences made in the current cabinet were the switch in portfolios between Khairy Jamaluddin and Dr Adham Baba, who are now the new health minister, and science, technology and innovation minister, respectively.

In this regard, netizens were interested to see Adham Baba’s plans for the science and innovation ministry, while others brought up his past comments on the “warm water”, “500 countries” and “Spanish Fly”.
