Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd (SBVB), who is responsible for managing Selangor’s multifaceted contact tracing and health app Selangkah, has just announced that they will be partnering with a group of laboratories and clinics that were authorised by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to issue certified COVID-19 test results for its Travel Pass.

With this, it will make it easier for travellers to get a Covid-19 test which is recognised for international travel purposes.

According to the official press release, SVSB and IATA had inked this strategic partnership to offer travellers a trusted and convenient experience for cross-border COVID-19 test requirements.

In addition, this will provide travellers with a myriad of location options for when they wish to undergo testing in Klang Valley before departing for their trip.

The IATA Travel Pass was first launched back in April, where it is a digital platform that is designed to facilitate international travel in the new normal. As countries gradually reopen their borders but with strict entry requirements, this Travel Pass will help travellers manage and store their Covid-19 test results as well as vaccination certificate.

It was also reported that several airlines have participated in the Travel Pass trial including Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Emirates, ANA, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

The partnership between SVSB and IATA will allow SVSB’s lab test results be certified for use by participating countries and airlines under the IATA Travel Pass programme. In addition, the IATA Travel Pass app will help users locate SVSB’s authorised labs to undergo COVID-19 screen test. Both inbound and outbound travellers are required to get a negative COVID-19 test result before taking their next flight.

According to SBVB, there are currently 13 partner clinics in Klang Valley have since been authorised to provide COVID-19 test for IATA Travel Pass. This includes Selcare Clinic in Puchong, Sentosa Klang, Skypark Subang and Section 13 Shah Alam, as well as KL Clinic Hap Seng, Menara Olympia, UBN Tower and Menara Worldwide.

Meanwhile, users will have their Covid-19 results sent directly to them via an app as a verifiable credential. The user will then get an “OK To Travel” status if the health status fulfils the travel requirements, and if the results were positive, they will be marked as “Not OK to Travel.”

Commenting on the tourism industry, SVSB CEO Tengku Iesta Tengku Alaudin said that they were the most heavily impacted by Covid-19. Hence, with the partnership with IATA, he hopes that this initiative will facilitate the reopening of safe corridor travel in the region.

On the other hand, SVSB CIO Dr Helmi Zakariah said “IATA has been at the helm of creating a digital standardisation for diagnostic reporting across the world, and we are proud to support its efforts in reopening the border safely.”

He added that Selangkah users’ timely lab results will be integrated with IATA and accepted across participating airlines and countries in the near future too.
