Yesterday (23 August), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had clarified that his invitation to the Opposition Members of Parliament (MP) to contribute to the country’s fight against Covid-19 does not mean that there will be a unity government.
“However, they have no participation in the cabinet. There is no unity government with the opposition.” he said during an inspection of the flood situation in Kedah.
Nonetheless, he said that the Opposition MPs who are looking forward to work together to handle the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia can do so by joining the National Recovery Council or the special committee.

“They want to discuss, God willing. I will meet with them to discuss, they want to know what their role is.” he said, according to CNA.
“The same with economic recovery, there is the National Recovery Council and they can also be involved in that.”
However, when being asked if this meant Cabinet roles, Ismail Sabri stressed that there will be no unity government.
“But cooperation does not mean they are in the Cabinet. If they really want to help solve the Covid-19 issue, we have the Special Committee on Covid-19, they can contribute their opinions and ideas there.” he said.
Meanwhile, the cabinet line-up is set to be announced this week after Ismail Sabri obtains the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
There had been several rumours circulating on social media but Ismail Sabri urged the public to not believe in any of those line-ups.
“Please don’t believe any list. Every day there is a new list. But thank you also for helping me.” he said with a laugh.
In addition, he denied to comment if he will set the cabinet line-up based on the representation of the political parties in the coalition.
“It’s dangerous, it’s getting closer,” he said at a press conference, as reported by the Vibes.
