A landlord is being praised online after he sold his house and shared the profits he earned with his former tenants who helped him pay off the mortgage.
Chris Robarge, who lives in Massachusetts in the US, shared a letter he received from his ex-landlord along with a $2,500 cheque.
Chris wrote, “A person I formerly rented from asked me for my current address recently. This person rented me a space in their house that was the first place I had to actually call home when I had to leave my house after I got divorced.”
He said, “I paid a completely fair amount of money for my accommodations and really enjoyed my time there, and like all rental situations, I figured that was that.”
He explained that his former landlord sold their house and that they paid him and every tenant they ever had for what they contributed to the profit they made from selling the house.
He added, “I have been sitting with this for more than a day and I am still completely beyond an actual way to describe what this act means to me.”
Chris continued, “All that I can say is that there are people who talk about their values and there are people who actually live them, and the reason I wanted to share this is that I want to encourage us all to actually live our values. Do it off the clock, do it when no one is watching, do it always.”
Chris did not reveal the identity of his former landlord but said that it was shared with their permission with hopes that it could inspire others to take kind actions.
Chris said that he would keep $500 of the money to get his car repaired and will give away the rest of the amount.
The post has gone viral on social media, with netizens praising the landlord for the kind gesture. One user said, “WOW that’s unheard of! What a beautiful, and real, gesture.” Another wrote, “Great to know good people still living in this world.”
