Right after Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tendered his resignation letter to the King, Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak took to his Facebook to announce that he will be suing Muhyiddin for defamation over his claims of demands for Muhyiddin to interfere in court matters and free them of criminal charges.

In the Facebook post, Najib said he will be suing the Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan as well.

“My lawyer will also apply for action to be taken against Muhyiddin and Wan Saiful for contempt of court.” he said.

Meanwhile, Najib went on to criticize Muhyiddin’s claim that he had to resign as the Prime Minister as he failed to fend off the power hungry groups, reminding him that Muhyiddin was part of the defectors who brought down the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.

Earlier on, Muhyiddin had repeatedly said he was under pressure from “certain parties” to intervene in their criminal trials but had never directly named them. However, it is commonly inferred that Muhyiddin was making reference to Najib and the Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the two were among those facing dozens of corruption, abuse and money laundering charges stemming from their time in power.

During Muhyiddin’s announcement yesterday (16 August), Muhyiddin once again stress that among his reasons to step down includes his refusal to work with “kleptocrats”.

“He (Muhyiddin) says the easy way for him to stay in power would be to conspire with ‘kleptocrats’ but he would not do so.”

“But has he forgotten that the ‘kleptocrats’ were the same ones from whom he had sought a lifeline and raised him to be the PM last year?” Najib said.

Meanwhile, Najib also rejected Muhyiddin’s claims that he had sacked Muhyiddin as the Deputy Prime Minister back in 2015 because he refused to take part in the 1MDB scandal.

Instead, Najib said that the his decision to sack Muhyiddin is because he had allegedly plotted with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to remove Najib as the Prime Minister and President of UMNO.

Meanwhile, he insisted that Muhyiddin’s government failure to manage the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia is the main reason of his resignation.

“Until now he refuses to admit that the main reason he had to go was his abysmal record. A world-class failure.”

In the press conference yesterday (16 August), Muhyiddin confirmed that he no longer had the majority support of the Members of Parliament (MP) and had to resign as the Prime Minister.

He was then been appointed as the caretaker Prime Minister until the King appointed a new Prime Minister. Nonetheless, it is still considered not safe to conduct a general election given that Covid-19 is still spreading wildly in Malaysia.
