Last Monday (2 August), it was reported that a popular Malaysian comedian was arrested at a hotel in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan over his involvement in a sex trafficking case by Sinar Harian.
Kuala Pilah district police chief, Supt Amran Mohd Ghani said that the suspect was detained during a raid, where they have also seized condoms, cash, four mobile phones, and a Perodua Axia.
The police added that they managed to save a woman from sexual exploitation and they had issued her a temporary protection order. The victim was then sent to a safe home in Johor.
It is believed that the celebrity’s role in the syndicate is to transport women to hotels that they had ‘booked’ online through WhatsApp and the customers were charged over RM1,000 for an 8-hour sex.
According to Harian Metro, the woman who was interrogated by the police said that she was involved in prostitution activities and she was being handled by an agent named “Kevin”, whose role was to promote sex services through various social media applications.
“Usually, interested customers are asked to deposit money into a bank account under Kevin’s name.” she added.
Since the news first came out, Malaysians had been speculating on the identity of the suspect. Netizens even quoted some comedians who fits the details as reported by the police, which Tauke Jambu was being named too.
Nonetheless, due to the pressure from the public, the Malaysian comedian, Zamatul Amri Zakaria, or being known Tauke (Jambu) had admitted that he was detained by the police to assist in the investigation.
“To those who are dissatisfied, I was detained to assist in the investigation and I have already given full cooperation to the authorities.” he wrote in his Instagram Story.
However, he denied he was related to the sex trafficking case, nor he had been involved in the activity, as described as the transporter.
Tauke, who is also a former Raja Lawak participant in the first season, repeatedly denied that he was a well-known comedian who was arrested by the police last Sunday (1 August) for allegedly being involved in the sex trafficking case at a hotel in Kuala Pilah.
Meanwhile, according to Negeri Sembilan police contingent headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department head, ACP Ramlan Abdul Razak, the case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
