The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said they have yet to unable to determine the mastermind behind the WhatsApp message, who have allegedly offered bribes to Opposition Members of Parliament (MP) in exchange for supporting the Perikatan National (PN) government.
According to Malay Mail, MACC said that they have interviewed the Opposition MPs who were offered the bribes to further investigate the case.
“To date, MACC has not been able to identify the real owner of the phone number behind the WhatsApp message that was sent to the MPs.”
“However, MACC gives an assurance that investigations will continue and hopes the public will not make any speculation on this issue.” MACC said in a statement.
Nonetheless, MACC did not name the Opposition members involved but it is understood that they are Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong, Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran and Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.
Last week, 3 Opposition MPs were approached by an anonymous person offering them “Durian RM30” or a veiled reference to RM30 million, in addition to the ministerial position offered, which was made vacant following the resignation of 2 UMNO MPs as they quit as ministers.
The ministerial positions that were made vacant were the energy and natural resources minister and higher education minister.
The offer was made after UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced his party’s withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional government, which deepens the political turmoil in the country that is still struggling to control the Covid-19 crisis.
On the other hand, Muhyiddin had announced that he will table a vote of confidence in Parliament next month.
