The youth coalition, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) has once again demanded the resignation of the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister, or they will organise a larger #Lawan protest in the near future.

According to their statement, the group had planned for the rally on 21 August, despite Muhyiddin’s plan to table a confidence motion in Dewan Rakyat in the coming September.

They also said that Muhyiddin and his government had failed to come up with effective policies to curb the Covid-19 spread in Malaysia, where the daily cases had exceeded the 20,000 threshold and the total deaths exceeded 10,000 this week.

“How can the Prime Minister say the country is moving in the right direction when poverty rates have gone up by 5.9% and B40 households have increased to 3.5 million households?”

“In fact, the unemployment figure, especially among the youth, is 720,000. This shows that so many are affected by the pandemic.” it said.

They added that the people are suffering as they are losing their source of income, and the government’s ineffective policies are to be blamed. Despite the people losing their jobs, the government, on the other hand, had appointed offered multiple position for those who supported them.

One example is his party deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who was being appointed as a minister-level special adviser.

“Enough is enough. We do not need two-faced leaders who disrespect the main institutions of the country, especially Parliament, and practise double standards in its governance.” it said in a statement.

They also stressed that the streets were never their choice to voice out the people’s issues, however, this is the only avenue they can go as the leaders had never reach out to them, nor hear their demands.

Previously, hundreds of Malaysian youths had gathered in the heart of Kuala Lumpur to take part in the #Lawan protest. The demonstrators can be seen carrying black flags and are waving them up high, while shouting out for the current Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin resignation.

The protest was organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR), which consists of activists like Undi18’s Tharma Pillai, Qyira Yusri, Afiq Adib and Muhammad Alshatri and Bersih’s Mohd Asraf Sharafi.

They were the organisers of several small protests previously, including the “Black Flag” protest at Dataran Merdeka on 17 July and a vehicle convoy on 24 July.
