Singapore PM’s wife impressed by Malaysia’s rising Covid-19 vaccination rate

After all the gloomy news from our politicians, there is something positive for Malaysians.

Ho Ching, the wife of the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong took it to Facebook to praise Malaysia for having such a high vaccination rate despite having a population smaller than the United States (US).

In her Facebook post, she said that Malaysia’s vaccination rate had gone up to half a million shots a day and this is the same as the US.

“This is the current run rate in the USA too, except USA has 10 times the population of M’sia (Malaysia). Go, go, go!.” she said.

The number of Covid-19 daily vaccinations in Malaysia had surpassed 500,000 doses for the past 6 consecutive dates, with 519,111 doses being administered on 31 July alone.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba has announced the information on Twitter with an Infographic that shows the total vaccines given out on 31 July, where 316,492 were first doses while 202,619 were second doses.

In addition, it was reported that over 21 million vaccine jabs had been administered nationwide under the Malaysia’s National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) kicked off on 24 Feb.

According to the Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV)’s website, 14 million were administered with the first dose while 7 million were given the second dose.

As of Saturday (31 July), about 21% of the country’s population have been fully vaccinated while 29% of the adult population have received both shots.

At the same time, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the Malaysian government is aiming to fully vaccinate 50% of the adult population by Merdeka Day on 31 Aug.

The government are also in the midst of finalising the draft of relaxed SOPs for those who have been fully vaccinated, and is pending for the announcement to be made by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. Nonetheless, his hands were full since the Parliament reconvened and he found himself in hot water after being challenged by the Opposition MPs on their policies.
