After the 4th day of the Parliament sitting ended in chaos again, the opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has proposed a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, stating that the Dewan Rakyat has lost confidence in him and he should resign as the Prime Minister immediately.

According to Bernama, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Port Dickson, Anwar said that the motion was submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun under Regulations 14(1)(h), 26(1)(d) dan 36(12) of the Standing Orders and the Federal Constitution.

“I, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on behalf of  Dewan Rakyat members hereby submit the motion as follows.”

“That the Dewan Rakyat resolves to establish no-confidence in Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yassin, MP for Pagoh, and to vacate the post of prime minister immediately in accordance with the Federal Constitution.” he said to the reporters in the Parliament building yesterday (29 July).

In addition, Anwar said that the statement from the Istana Negara yesterday (29 July) mentioned the King had expressed his disappointment in the Perikatan National government, especially towards Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan for misleading the Dewan Rakyat by stating that all emergency ordinances had been revoked on 21 July.

The statement also said that the King had ordered the emergency ordinances to be tabled and debated in Parliament for annulment.

Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s office confirmed receiving the motion when contacted by the media.

Nonetheless, Anwar also urge Takiyuddin to honourably resign as the Law Minister for his mistake and for confusing the House.

Anwar also said that they will follow the development in the next day or two to decide whether there is a need to seek for an audience with the King for the motion.

Meanwhile, according to Utusan, UMNO had retracted their support and urge Muhyiddin and Takiyuddin to resign with honour.

UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that UMNO deeply regrets the action of the PN government in disobeying the order of the King who wants all Emergency Ordinances to be debated and unveiled in Parliament in line with Article 150 (3) Federal Constitution.

“This action is clearly a form of rebellion against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and even goes against the principles of the Federal Constitution.”

“In this regard, UMNO will ask Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan to resign with honor.” he said in a statement today.
