New National Nutrition Policy launched by PM

As a continuous effort to combat the problem of malnutrition in the country, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin launched the National Nutrition Policy of Malaysia 2.0.

In a statement, Muhyiddin said the policy outlines 13 strategies to ensure the well-being of the population is achieved and maintained through nutrition.

He noted that the 13 strategies were formulated to meet three goals of the policies – improving nutritional status, reducing the prevalence of nutrition-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and strengthening food and nutrition security.

The policy will be implemented through the “whole of government and whole of society” concept.

Efforts to combat and end all forms of malnutrition require a sustainable nutrition policy across all sectors of government, private, industry and the people.

In line with the policy, the government, through the health ministry, also reviewed the National Nutrition Action Plan (NPANM) 2016-2025 which supports the 13 strategies.

In addition, key national nutritional issues such as food security and nutrition have also been integrated into the Agro-Food Policy.

Through the policy review, the government intends to produce a healthy generation through nutritional well-being from a young age.

Accordingly, to combat malnutrition among children and adolescents, a joint committee involving various relevant stakeholders and agencies will be established in the near future.

He added that the health ministry had led a food safety and nutrition cluster under the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security that he chairs.

The full list of the 13 strategies under the National Nutrition Policy of Malaysia 2.0 will be made available soon here.
