A group of retailer operators had in a joint statement urge the government to allow only fully vaccinated people to enter their premise so as to kick-start the retail industry.
According to FMT, the group said that this initiative will create a safe environment for shoppers and reduce the risk of creating a mall cluster.
“This will improve the chances for revival and survival of retail businesses which have been severely affected by recent closures.”
“We wait with anticipation on what the prime minister (Muhyiddin Yassin) will announce for those who have completed two doses of the vaccine.” they said, after Muhyiddin hinted that the ease of restrictions for fully vaccinated people.

Muhyddin also mentioned that the SOP relaxation will be in the form of relaxed restrictions on travel, social activities, sports and dining-in at restaurants.
Nonetheless, the group said that they hope the government will allow tenants and shoplots at malls to reopen when the country’s herd immunity reaches 70%.
Meanwhile, the group said that they will impose additional measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and they include control of admission of shoppers who are determined by MySejahtera as ‘low-risk’ and ‘casual contact’ – no symptom’ status and with temperatures below 37.5 degrees.
“Thus, shops within malls need not repeat this process and the malls will effectively become a type of Green Bubble environment.” the statement read.
They also believe that with all these procedures in place, it would be a manageable risk for all shops in the mall to be open for business.
“We hope to become a ‘green bubble’ for those seeking relief after being cooped up for a long time.” they said.
The group comprises members of the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association, Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Bumiputera Retailers Organisation (BRO), Malaysia REIT Managers Association (MRMA), and Malaysian Association of Theme Park and Family Attractions (Matfa).
