The SOP relaxation matter had been the topic of Malaysians since last week, where the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Saturday (17 July) hinted Malaysians that the easing of restrictions for individuals who received 2 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will be decided at the National Recovery Council meeting.
The matter had been once again brought up after Muhyiddin had in a special interview with the press today (25 July), as reported by Bernama.
This time, he said that Malaysians who are fully vaccinated can expect some good news within the next few days, where he will announce the ease of restrictions for this group of people.
“We will finalise (the details) and I will announce it as a total package.” he said in a special interview attended by Bernama.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said that the ease of restrictions will include travel to Malaysia, inter-state movement for spouses working separately, social activities, sports and dine-in at restaurants.
“I do hope that this (relaxation) will give room or space, breathing space, for the people to live a slightly better life.” he said.
He also mention that this initiative is in line with the transition to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) to open more economic sectors and social events, especially in the Klang Valley.
Having that said, the NRP is scheduled to be tabled by Muhyiddin in the Special Meeting of the Third Session of the 14th Parliament tomorrow.
Regarding this matter, he said that although the Parliament session is open for debate, he said that the government is firm to proceed with the NRP until the country is back on track.
In addition, he said that the NRP enables Malaysia to walk out of the COVID-19 crisis but it requires the support of all parties as it is a ‘whole of nation approach’ rather than a ‘whole of government approach’.
Muhyiddin then urge all parties including the government, the people, non-governmental organisations and other parties to work together and provide support for the success of the NRP.
Adding on the current Covid-19 situation in Malaysia, he said that the public should not see the government as having failed to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic as the government had just embarked on the PPN. He then claims that the achievements will take time as the plan cannot yield results over just a week or a month.
“It takes a bit of a long painful recovery but I do believe and have confidence that we will survive the test. Give the government a chance for this.” he said.
