The King of Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has decreed that all events and celebrations in conjunction to His Majesty’s 62nd birthday on 30 July will be once again postponed until further notice.
This comes after the King is of the opinion that the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia does not look optimistic.
On the other hand, Pahang State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak said according to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah, he has only given exemptions for thanksgiving ceremonies and prayers but these events should be done virtually too.
According to Bernama, Sallehuddin also said that the King has decreed that should be no congratulatory messages published in the print media or on billboards in conjunction with his Majesty’s birthday too.
“Instead, this can be done online on the websites of departments and companies or any medium that does not involve any cost.” he said in a statement yesterday (19 July).
In addition, he mentioned that the King had also decreed that the allocations for the publication of congratulatory messages should instead by channelled to the Covid-19 fund set up by the government to help combat the pandemic.
What do you think about this? One less holiday?
