Yesterday (19 July), Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had in an announcement said that the Government is making some slight changes to the standard operating procedure (SOP) under Phases One and Two of the National Recovery Plan after the national vaccination rate showed great progress.
The changes in the SOP includes allowing the public to partake in individual cycling and games. In addition, recreational activities with physical distancing of two to three metres are allowed to be carried out. However, these can only be carried out in the neighbourhood or surrounding area.
On the other hand, operating hours of public and daily markets are now extended from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. depending on the permission of the local authorities. The compliance of the SOP will then be monitored by RELA or local council officers. Meanwhile, the operating hours for controlled fresh markets are now from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ismail Sabri also said that the Government intends to boost productivity, presence at offices for the public sector. Hence, they will be increasing the workforce limit to 40% but this is subject to orders and directives by the Chief Secretary to the Government.
He also mentioned that accounting services can now be allowed to operate at 60% capacity now.
“The changes are made following positive development to our vaccination rate.” he said.
Nonetheless, Ismail Sabri did not mention when the SOP relaxation will take effect.
“Ports, airports and the logistics sector in areas under Phase One will be permitted to operate 24 hours while mining and quarry activities can increase workers’ capacity to a maximum of 60%.”
“This is to meet demand from critical projects involving construction and repair works for roads, including rural roads.” he said.
Meanwhile, areas that are currently remained under Phase One are Selangor, Federal Territories, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Kedah. States currently under Phase Two are Perlis, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah.
For areas under Phase Two, the relaxation of the SOP will allow outside filming but with strict adherence to Covid-19 prevention protocols.
In addition, operating hours for business premises, including specialty stores and petrol stations, will be from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
