Yesterday (17 July), a group of 20 had gathered at the Dataran Merdeka to protest against the Malaysian Government for its failures to handle to health crisis happening in Malaysia.
The group waved black flags and laid out 5 effigies of “dead bodies” wrapped in white shrouds at Dataran Merdeka as part of a protest. Meanwhile, they wrote “Kami Mati Derhaka #KeluardanLawan” which translates into “We die in treason #GoOutandFight”.
The organiser of the protest is Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR), a non-governmental organization formed by a coalition of political parties, including the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), the Homeland Fighters’ Party (PEJUANG), the National Trust Party (AMANAH) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

According to Kosmo, the Dang Wangi Regional Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had dispatched the MCO SOP Compliance Monitoring team to the scene and disperse the group.
In addition, he said that the PDRM had identified 3 individuals who are involved in the protest though their investigations. It is believed that these 3 individuals are the organiser of this protest too.
Nonetheless, he said that the investigations are being carried out in accordance with Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for assembling without notice, according to Bernama.

On the other hand, Mohammad Alshatri who is from the social non-governmental organisation Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) took it to Twitter to share that he and the other 2 from the electoral reform watchdog Bersih 2.0, Muhamamd Nur Taufiq, and Mohsd Asraf Sharafi were contacted by the police asked to present themselves at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 9 a.m. for their statements to be recorded.
In the Tweet, he wrote “Ashraf from Bersih, @tul4ng and myself had been summoned to IPD Dang Wangi tomorrow to be investigated for today’s #Lawan protest in Dataran Merdeka. We will be going there at 9am.”
