A man in Alor Setar, Kedah was killed in a tragic accident while being pursed by the police officers after he alleged assaulted a policewoman just outside the Kota Setar district police headquarters (IPD) yesterday (15 July).

In addition, it is also believed that the man also vandalised the Royal Palace.

According to Berita Harian, Kedah police chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that the suspect in his 30s, has fled after investigations found that he was involved in the graffiti on the wall at Istana Anak Bukit.

“Investigations also found that the suspect was riding a black motorcycle and the police began operations to identify the suspect.” he added.

Nonetheless, the man went to the Kota Setar district police headquarters around 5 p.m. and punched a policewoman in the face. The suspect threw a toy gun at the policewoman before he flees from the scene with his motorcycle too.

Kamarul said that the policewoman sustained injuries to her face as a result of the assault.

Nonetheless, the police officers managed to track down the man near Gurun in Sungai Petani but as soon as the suspect realises that the police were nearby, he attempted to escape again.

The police officers then followed him and warned him to pull over but he continued to make a run for it.

“The suspect’s motorcycle then skidded around Bedang, and he sustained injuries,” Kamarul said.

The police officers then called for the ambulance but by the time paramedics arrived, he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Kamarul said that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing treason, Section 332 of the Penal Code for injuring a civil servant and Section 36 (1) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation weapon.

“Further investigations are being carried out.” he added.
