A 20 year-old teenager was recently arrested for pretending to be a doctor up to 16 days at the Stadium Perpaduan Covid-19 vaccination centre in Kuching.
According to Harian Metro, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail confirmed the incident and he said that the teenager had been arrested on last Thursday (1 July) after they receive a tip off from a Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel.
Meanwhile, the teenager was reported to carry his own his own stamp, name card, coat, personal protective equipment (PPE), other essentials, as well as a fake staff pass of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
As reported by See Hua Daily, the teenager had initially made inquiries at the vaccination centre, which he then returned to the location on 16 June with his equipment and said that the authorities had stationed him there.
On 19 June, he was reported to have been stationed at the registration counter at the vaccination centre without authorisation from the officers there.
Nonetheless, it wasn’t sure whether the teenager had administered any vaccine shots or had carried out any other medical procedures.
However, suspicion began to arise when he started to mingle with other doctors and they were shocked to find out that he was only 20 years old.
During the investigations, he said that he was pretending to be a doctor as he aspires to be one. He added that he is studying medicine online too.
On the other hand, Aidi said that the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.
He added that the teenager is under 21 year-old, hence, no confession was being recorded while they wait for the probation report to be released.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned in the magistrate’s court on 17 August.
