The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin through the Prime Minister’s Office had just issued a statement regarding the reconvening of the Parliament on 26 July.

In the statement, Muhyiddin said that the government will advise the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong to call for a 5-day Dewan Rakyat sitting from 26 July to 29 July and 2 August, while the Dewan Negara will sit for 4 days from 3 August to 5 August.

“The purpose of this sitting is to explain the national recovery plan to MPs and to amend all relevant legislation and rules to allow for Parliament proceedings to be held in a hybrid manner.”

“Based on Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution, emergency proclamations and ordinances proclaimed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be laid before both houses of Parliament.” the statement said.

Nonetheless, the proceedings will be held in compliance with the SOPs imposed by the Ministry of Health (KKM) and National Security Council (MKN).

This comes after Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun and Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim emphasizes that the King wanted the Parliament to reconvene before 1 August.

In the statement from Istana Negara, the King intended to reconvene the Parliament as soon as possible to allow for the emergency ordinances and national recovery plan to be debated by MPs.
