Photos of the Pokok Sena Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Mahfuz Omar went circulating on the Internet for he has allegedly violated the SOP under the Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
According to NST, Mahfuz is currently being investigated by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and he will cooperate fully in the investigation by PDRM.
“I was made to understand that police have opened a file and I respect the move by the Police to initiate a probe.” he said.
The photos of Mahfuz that went viral on social media is believed to be taken when he was delivering the ‘Bakul Rahmah’ aid to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the photos showed that he was not practicing the the SOP imposed by the National Security Council (NSC) for having afternoon tea with several other individuals in close proximity.
His actions drew the attention of netizens and they questioned him whether this is permissible under the SOP which has been imposed in Kedah.
Responding to the matter, Kota Star District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir confirmed that the PDRM received a police report last night regarding the incident as netizens accused him of violating the SOP.
“At 11.36 pm last night, a police report was lodged and the initial investigation found that there were several pictures uploaded by the owner of the Facebook account, Nurul Amin Hamid, featuring a Member of Parliament in Kedah at a programme.”
“The case is being investigated under Rules 7 11 (1) and 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for the offence of gathering in a public place, not wearing a face mask and not maintaining social distancing,” he said.
