This morning (3 July), Twitter was flooded with an unbelievable footage of the ocean on fire. Yes, you did not read it wrongly, the ocean is literally on fire.
In the video, we can see the bright orange flames blazing on the ocean surface. The ocean waters were being boiled and steam was escaping the surface.
Nonetheless, the incident happened at the gulf of Mexico is believed to be caused by a gas leak from an underwater pipeline which then erupted into flames. It was reported in Reuters that the pipeline belongs to a Mexico state-owned oil company, Pemex.
In another video, the netizen shared that fire-fighting boats joined the rescue and it took them more than 5 hours to put the fire out. Ironically, the fire-fighters were fight fire in the water, with water.
Netizens were amazed by the scene and they said that it seems like “a portal to hell”. Meanwhile, a netizen caught a fire-fighter boat that seemingly splashes water at itself and not contributing to fighting the fire.
