The Movement Control Order (MCO) had restricted our movement and makes it inconvenience for us to travel around. On the other hand, food delivery service had become popular as they allows us to indulge in our delights when we feel like it.
Nonetheless, Shopee is looking into expanding their business to include food delivery service in Malaysia too! Shopee had debuted their new operation yesterday (23 June) on Twitter, and it is being known as ShopeeFood.
Shopee also mentioned that it will first debut in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, and be extended to the entire nation later.
At the same time, Shopee revealed that they are recruiting for riders, or potential delivery partners for its new service. According to the Twitter post, applicants should met the following 6 criterias, and they are:
- Being a Malaysian citizen with a valid blue identity card
- Aged 18 year-old and above
- Possess a motorcycle license that is rated P or above
- Owns a smartphone that supports iOS 10, Android 4.4 or better
- Must not have a criminal record with PDRM
- Not suspended or banned on Shopee’s platform.
Given that Shopee had just started their recruitment, we should expect that it should take a while before we get to see ShopeeFood’s delivery. The ShopeeFood delivery service originally made its debut in Indonesia earlier this year and it was a success there. Based on the information, ShopeeFood is a standalone app and its functions similar with other food delivery services such as GrabFood and Foodpanda.
What makes it different from the rest is that the application allows customers to settle their bill with ShopeePay’s eWallet and this would be convenient for those regular customer of Shopee and its ecosystem.
However, Shopee Malaysia is rather tight lipped regarding this and it is not known whether the Malaysia’s version will mirror the Indonesian counterpart. Hopefully, we’ll hear more great news from Shopee soon!
