Last Tuesday (15 June), the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur had shared a video on Facebook, saying that the U.S will be providing additional Covid-19 assistance to Malaysia. While this was great news to Malaysians, netizens were even more fascinated that the ambassador did his entire speech in perfect Bahasa Malaysia!
In the 2-minute video, Ambassador Brian D. McFeeters said that the U.S. knows the challenges Malaysia faces due to Covid-19 and being as the ambassador of Malaysia, he and his team wishes to help Malaysians to get through this.
Earlier this month, they had already delivered some Covid-19 relief supplies to National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and this represents the second part of the assistance given to Malaysia.
At the same time, U.S. will be working with the COVAX to donate an additional 80 million to the countries worldwide and it is expected that around 7 million of the doses will be donated to the Asian countries.
Before he ended his speech, he wishes Malaysians to stay safe and health too.
At the time of writing, the video had garnered over 400,000 views, 18,000 likes and 1,300 comments. Netizens flooded the comments with praises for the ambassador for being able to speak fluently in our national language.
Meanwhile, some netizens added that some Malaysians don’t even know how to speak the language although being raised in Malaysia.
