In a press conference held on Friday (11 June), Melaka police chief, Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said that 5 members from the notorious Gang 36 were arrested for robbing a businessman of RM1.2 million at his condominium in Klebang, Melaka.

He added that the gang members had use a permission letter from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to cross the Melaka borders to perform the crime.

In addition, the group used 2 luxury vehicles in the incident on 5 June and one of the vehicles had 2 stickers on it, resembling the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) logo.

After the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received a report from the victim, the PDRM formed a special task force to track down the suspects before arresting them in a raid at Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur last Monday (7 June) at 3.45 p.m.

The 5 suspects were aged between 27 to 37.

However, the PDRM did not mention that the MITI letter presented by the group was a fake document.

In the statement, Abdul Majid said that the robbery occurred at 8.30 p.m. and the 54 year-old victim and his wife were tied up and threatened with a parang, before their home was ransacked. Despite that, their family, including their 2 children were unharmed from the incident.

“Four criminals entered the victim’s house through the front door and were not wearing any masks during the robbery, while the weapon was obtained in the house.”

“They took away various personal items such as jewellery, a sword collection, cash and a Range Rover car after five hours of ransacking the house,” he told FMT.

He revealed that all the 5 suspects have previous criminal and drug records and they were remanded for five days until Sunday (12 June).
