A 29 year-old man from Petaling Jaya was assaulted by a group of of food delivery riders in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya yesterday (11 June).
As reported by Oriental Daily, Petaling Jaya district police chief, ACP Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said that the incident occurred in a residential area in Sungai Way at 2.30 p.m. when the 19 year-old food delivery rider received an order from the man.
The delivery rider claimed that the customer had used religious insensitive words as his name and infuriated by those words, he took a screenshot of the message sent by the customer and shared it with a food delivery group messaging platform.
This in return had angered a group of riders who then went over to the customer’s house and assaulted him. After that, the group of riders brought him to the Sungai Way police station and lodged a report against him.
Mohamad Fakhruddin said that the police had detained 5 from the group of delivery riders and the customer, all aged between 19 to 40. He added that the police are now looking for the remaining who are involved in the incident too.
The case will be investigated under Section 298 and Section 147 of the Penal Code.
He advised the public to not take matters into their own hands and leave the matter to the authorities. He added that the public should not make provocative statements as this could threaten public order and harmony.
