SPM 2020 records the Best National Average grade since 2016!

Year 2020 was an unprecedent year, where the pandemic started in Malaysia and we were forced to change all our past methods of doing things, and this includes learning from school.

Despite the challenge, students of SPM 2020 proved that attending classes online do not compromise the quality of learning.

According to Bernama, Education Minister, Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said that SPM 2020 records a national average grade (GPN) of 4.80 during the announcement of the SPM 2020 results. This year’s results was the best in 5 years since 2016.

He added that the GPN for the previous years was 4.86, 4.89, 4.90 and 5.05 for year 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 respectively.

“A smaller GPN value indicates a better candidate performance and the GPN trend from 2016 to 2020 shows that 2020 is the best record in five years,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said that around 88.68% of the 401,105 candidates nationwide were eligible to receive their certificate, and this is an increase of 1.96% from the previous year (86.72%).

“Core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, History, Moral Studies and Islamic Studies showed improvement in the 2020 results, whereas Bahasa Malaysia and English recorded a decline.”

Mohd Radzi also mentioned that the gap between the candidates’ performance from urban and rural areas has narrowed, and the Ministry will conduct an in-depth study and examine every aspect that influenced the SPM results.

The SPM 2020 students who had not check for their results, you can do so here, via the website myresult1.moe.gov.my and myresult2.moe.gov.my.

This is the first time that Malaysia releases the SPM results entirely online, instead of asking students to be present at their respective schools to collect them. This is a great improvement in making the process more efficient too!

On the other hand, congratulations to all SPM 2020 candidates for performing well in the examinations! All the best in your future endeavours.
