Kuan Chee Heng, or better known as Uncle Kentang, has been chosen for the next Malaysian to receive the Commonwealth Points of Light Award for his countless philanthropy work.
Uncle Kentang is famous for his good deeds in the Klang Valley and he aims to help the society’s most vulnerable and underpriviledged.
He even founded the Community Policing Malaysia in 2007, which originally intended to functions as a crime prevention non-governmental organisation (NGO). However, as he notice that the main cause for crime was mainly poverty in the local communities, he started to focus on providing aid and relief to the poor instead.
On last Sunday (22 May), Uncle Kentang received a notice from Commonwealth Points of Light that he is had been granted the award and is required collect the award on 12 June at the British High Commissioner’s office in Kuala Lumpur.
In addition, Uncle Kentang will be the 4th Malaysian to receive this honour since its inception in 2018 too!
According to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London 2018, these awards were made by Queen Elizabeth II, as Head of the Commonwealth to recognise the contributions of the volunteers’ act towards the society across the 53 Commonwealth nations.
Despite receiving the award, Uncle Kentang said “This award is for all of you. Without you all, we wouldn’t be able to help others. Without you all, many would be starved and dead without anyone managing their bodies.”
“I would like to humbly announce that this award is not only for me but it belongs to all of you and all Malaysians who continued to donate, help and support us.”
“It is not mine, it belongs to everyone. It is Malaysia’s.”
“I am only a representative who will receive the award from The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”

He added that the award will be his motivation to continue building a peaceful society where there is love and people will help each other without the prejudice of race, religion, politics and social status.
