Despite having the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 in place, Health Director General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham bin Abdullah is urging the public to practice self-lockdown for the next two weeks as Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

Noor Hisham also said that the health system is facing overwhelming pressure as there are insufficient bed capacity for Covid-19 patients.

In his Facebook post on 22 May, he mentioned that that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed usage in Klang Valley had reached 113% capacity currently. Because of this, the other areas of the hospital such as the normal wards have been repurposed to treat ICU patients temporarily.

These temporary ICUs can be seen fully packed with patients and frontliners in their full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the photos shared.

Once again, the Health DG emphasized that the virus is already in the community and the best way to keep yourselves safe is to obey the SOP and stay at home if there’s no important business outside.

In another Facebook post, Noor Hisham urged Malaysians to practice self-lockdown to break the Covid-19 chain. In addition, he said that the frontliners were mentally and physically exhausted from the battle with Covid-19.

As the Covid-19 cases had surged recently, there were more patients of the category 4 and 5 who require critical treatments or ICU. Hence, please think about the frontliners, patients and your loved ones before you go out and risk yourself as a medium for Covid-19 to transmit.

Stay home, stay safe!
