Yesterday (12 May), a woman was found hiding in the boot of a e-hailing car at a police roadblock at the Simpang Ampang toll plaza.
According to Bernama, the woman attempted to cross the state borders to meet her husband who is residing in Rembia, Malacca.
Further investigation shows that the ride was booked by her husband, who had not seen his wife in nearly a year. She failed to obtain permission to cross the state borders as she was an undocumented immigrant.
Alor Gajah police chief, Supt Arshad Abu said that the woman and the e-hailing driver was arrested on the spot and the preliminary investigation found that the woman was previously in the back seat of the vehicle she was riding in. However, she decide to hide in the boot of the vehicle a few metres before reaching the roadblock at the plaza toll in Alor Gajah, Melaka.
“The woman was found in the boot of the car lying down during the inspection by security personnel at the roadblock,” he added.
The case is currently being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and Section 56 (1) (D) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as well as Regulation 15 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Act 2021.
