Ain Husniza, a 17 year-old high school student had previously stood up to criticize her physical education (PE) teacher while he made jokes about rape. She is the teenager behind the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace movement too.
Unfortunately, she has just receive a warning letter of expulsion from her school. She took the notice to her Twitter and said that the warning letter was issued as she has been absent for school for three days.
She commented that she was disappointed by the school’s decision to issue her a warning letter, given that the principal had supported her to stand up regarding the matter the previous day.
She was confused by the school’s action and questioned why was she being punished for having her own opinion and thoughts. She said that school is supposed to place that they can learn safely. Despite that, she got a warning letter for speaking up for the right thing.
She said that no action was taken on the teacher and the boy who made the rape joke and threat, whereas she was getting a warning letter for expulsion. She added that this will ruin her life.
Ain then criticized educators who hid stories and silenced students, and urged for reform in the education system to avoid more students being silenced and punished for speaking the truth.
