A 24 year-old police officer in Sibu was being shot in the head by his colleague while playing video games at the colleague’s home. The tragic incident took place around 7.20 p.m. yesterday (6 May) at Lorong Permai Timur 9A.
According to Kosmo, the victim, named Norhalim Tumiran sustained injuries to the right side of his head and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, his colleague, being identified as the suspect has been arrested and will be remanded for seven days starting today (7 May).
It is believed that the suspect was joking around with the victim while holding the gun in his hand, before he accidentally pull the trigger while pointing the gun at the victim.
As reported by Astro Awani, Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said “We were informed that a police officer was found dead with a bullet wound in his head.”
He added that the victim, originally from Pahang, had just been transferred to Sibu about a month and a half ago after completing his training as a police officer. He was being transferred to the Motorcycle Patrol Unit of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department in Sibu a month and a half ago.
The victim leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old child.
Stanley said that they are still waiting for the results of the victim’s Covid-19 swab test, post-mortem, and pathologist’s results before the body could be transported back to the peninsula.
He added that the case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
