The Director General of Road Transport Department (JPJ), Datuk Zailani Hashim said that the department has collected collected RM3.147 million in summonses in just 2 weeks, dating from 13 April to 1 May.

Zailani said that this represents a total of 45,317 summons being collected and the huge collection was contributed by the 70% discount on traffic summonses that was announced by JPJ in conjunction with its 75th Platinum Jubilee Celebration, as he told Bernama.

“From the total funds collected, the biggest collection was RM548,910 or 7,871 summonses from Selangor, followed by Johor with RM343,605 which involve 4,911 summonses, and Pahang with RM311,874 which involve 4,413 summonses,” he told¬†Berita Harian.

He continue saying that the discount will be offered until 11 June and urge the public to take the opportunity to settle the summons. He added that JPJ will not be extending the discount period too.

Zailani said that 70% discount was offered on all summonses issued for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act (Act 334), and the Land Public Transport Act (Act 715). This also includes cases that are still blacklisted.

At the same time, Zailani also handed over the motor vehicle licences or road tax (LKM) payment exemption document to non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sukarelawan Amal Team and told that NGOs can apply to for an LKM exemption on their vehicles which are used for welfare and religious purposes.

The exemption given covers the following three categories:
– 100% exemption for hearses
– 70% exemption for vehicles owned by associations, orphanages, or nursing homes
– 50% exemption for vehicles, other than hearses, that are owned by religious institutions and associations
