Pfizer CEO said that a Third Dose Vaccine Shot likely needed within 12 months

During a recent interview with Pfizer CEO, Albert Bourla, he said that people will likely need a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine shot within 12 months of the last dose.

He also added that annual vaccinations may be required to curb the spread of the Covid-19, as reported by NST.

“A likely scenario is that there will be likely a need for a third dose, somewhere between 6 and 12 months and then from there, there will be an annual revaccination, but all of that needs to be confirmed,” he said.

As it is now, researchers are do not have a clue of how long the Covid-19 vaccine will provide protection against Covid-19 infection.

In a study released by Pfizer early this month, the results showed that Pfizer’s vaccine were more than 91% effective in protecting recipients from being infected, and more than 95% effective for those who received 2 doses. However, researchers say more data is needed to determine whether protection lasts after six months.

“We don’t know everything at this moment. We are studying the durability of the antibody response,” he said.

“It seems strong but there is some waning of that and no doubt the variants challenge,” he added.

“I think for planning purposes and planning purposes only, I think we should expect that we may have to boost.”

Pfizer had in February 2021 announced that it would test the third dose of its vaccine in an effort to curb Covid-19 infection.
