A newborn baby was found outside the Penang Family Health Development Association (FHDA) office in Jelutong on Saturday (10 April) night. The newborn still has his umbilical cord attached at that time.
A note scribbled with “Please take care of this child” was found along with the baby.
According to NST, Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner, Soffian Santong said that the baby was found when a man was visiting ex-colleagues at the association.
The man when out for a smoke in the late evening and he found something wrapped in a green towel near the front door of the association.
He discovered that it was a baby and without any hesitation, he brought him into the office. A woman there clothed the baby before feeding him with formula milk. It was then they realised it was a boy and his umbilical cord still attached.
The newborn was later taken to Penang Hospital for further observation and treatment he appeared to have jaundice, which is a common condition that was found in newborn babies.
Apart from that, Soffian Santong assured that the baby was not crying and was in good condition when he was found on Saturday, as reported by The Star.
As continuing with the case, Soffian said that there no fingerprints found on the note left. To make things difficult, the closed circuit television CCTV at the site wasn’t functioning too. However, he believed that another CCTV near a Chinese temple would provide their investigation some clues, but there was no one around.
He added that the case will be investigated under Section 31 of the Penal Code.
